Organized in 1872, Rooks County was named in memory of John C. Rooks, private of Company I, Eleventh Kansas Infantry, who died December 11, 1862, at Fayetteville, Ark., of wounds received in the battle of Prairie Grove, December 7, 1862. The County Seat of Rooks County is Stockton.
